Could my 3 year old need more activity/educational stimulation at daycare?

My almost 3 year old has started hitting and seeming to think that she needs all of the toys at daycare. Most of the other children there are younger and even those who are close to her age do not talk as well. She will talk in full sentences of about 6-8 words. She helps the other children with their puzzles and corrects them when they do not say something correctly. I work at the child care center and am with her most of the time. We plan activities but since most of the children are younger and not preschool age we do not plan a full day of activities or educational things to do. When I allow her to "write" in a notebook or "read" a book there she loves it and will do it for a very long time! I am wondering if she is ready for a more structured environment and maybe needs more learning stimulation? I have really run out of other answers!

It sounds like you have a smart girl who wants to learn. It sounds like she is ready for preschool. She is used of being around other children which is great but they are younger than her, or not at her level.. IF she went to preschool she would be around other kids her age and have a structured learning, but fun enviroment. You may want to think about a program 2 or 3 days a week for 3 hours. It would be a great experience for her. then she could join you at daycare and teach the other kids what she learned. Alot of the daycare centers around here also have preschool programs.

At 3 my daughter went through a phase where she thought everything was hers and did hit and push other kids. She was in a playgroup at the time. I put her in preschool and she LOVED it. She never hit or bullied the kids there, I was told she was very well behaved and got along with all the other children.. I think it was because I was there and she needed structure. She is now 4, she goes to school 3 days a week for 3 hours, I put her in an additional program for 2 hours after the 3 hours so she goes 3 days a week 5 hours total. She cant wait for kindergarden…I on the other hand can. My baby is growing up and is so independent which is great.

Sounds like she needs more than she is getting at daycare….sounds like she is board.

How can I help to get my 4 year old little cousin to share his toys?

I watch him on weekends sometimes and he is an only child and so therefore not used to having to share his things – or even things that are not his. What are some tips I can use to help him learn to share with other kids for daycare.

You could start out with crayons and coloring books and then really praise him and reward him for sharing. Also have games where it takes more than one person and then remind him whose turn it is next to play or use the toy. Praising him will teach him that he is doing the right thing and eventually he will catch on. Your best bet is to do things with him that will involve other children where he has to share. You can also use food and help him put portions on other’s peoples’ plates and teaching him to be a helper will make him feel good and show him a bit responsibility and may open up his heart a bit more to share.

limiting a preschoolers time with educational video games?

My 4 year old got both the vsmile pocket (which was planned) AND the leapster tv system (which was unexpected) for Christmas. Her birthday was last month and she got quite a few new games for both systems.

My problem is, ALL she wants to do is play those video games. I know they are educational, and she does learn a LOT from playing them, but after an hour or so I ask her to turn it off and play with her other toys. I’m worried that her creative and imaginary play are being disrupted by the video games, but at the same time those games are an excellent teaching tool for her since she LOVES video games.

I’m torn here, she is very bright for her age (writing and starting to read already), so should I just back off and let her play the video games more often? I feel like the world’s meanest mommy when I say no video games today lol.
She has a very full little life lol. She goes to "school" once a week to play with friends, we go do things daily outside of the home, and when we are at home she has tons of things to play with, we do "school time" daily, and we do crafts or baking 2-3 times a week as well. She is not just sitting in front of a video game all day every day. The issue is those times when hubby & I are working or doing something that she can’t be involved in -
THAT is when she wants to play constantly.

I think you are doing the right thing my limiting her time on it. Even though they are educational and kids do learn a lot from them, they still need to play with other things and be outside / away from the television/computer.

If Chinese toys are TOXIC are American GUNS safer toys?

Maybe the American gun-runners have decided to help out the economy by selling cute guns to American kids – learning early to shoot Arabs!

that’s ridiculous. if used properly guns are great. it’s when you get the unlicensed untrained hooligans carrying guns that you have a problem.
